Edward Glafke was born in Portland Oregon and later moved with his family to San Francisco, California. He attended high school in San Francisco, then enlisted in the Coast Guard for the duration of WW2. He later lived in San Rafael and worked as a commercial artist. As his work shifted to fine art painting, he eventually settled in Carmel, where he established a solid reputation as an impressionist painter and teacher. He worked in watercolor and oil and his subjects included landscapes, figures, and still lifes.
